Two people were airlifted to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision Friday night at the intersection of Briggs and Sherrills Ford roads.
Two men, whose names were not immediately available, were pinned in to a Saturn and had to be extricated by emergency personnel, said Rowan Rescue Chief Coyt Karriker.
The Saturn’s driver hit a Schwann’s food delivery truck. The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating, but a trooper on the scene said it appears the Saturn’s driver pulled in front of the truck.
Troopers were still trying to reconstruct the accident Friday night.
Debris was thrown in front of the car, which came to rest on the side of Sherrills Ford Road. Damage to the truck was contained to the front and was minimal.
The Saturn had significant damage.
Officials set up a helicopter landing zone at Locke Fire Department Station 62.
Locke Fire Department, Rowan County EMS, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. Highway Patrol. The accident happened just after 9 p.m. Further details weren’t immediately available Friday night.
