Troopers nab speeding biker

A Troutman man on a 1991 Suzuki motorcycle drove in excess of 130 mph Friday afternoon while unsuccessfully trying to elude arrest.
Jeffrey Dewayne Lawter, 200 Ridge Creek Drive, was charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, driving with a revoked license, failure to heed a light and siren, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, giving fictitious information to an officer and failure to stop for a steady red light.
Trooper A.J. Carpenter with the N.C. Highway Patrol apparently began the chase on N.C. 801 near Cleveland around 1:15 p.m. Friday, according to a report filed with the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
Lawter’s bond was set at $5,000 with an April 29 date in Rowan County District Court.
