Trooper honored for action at Peach Orchard Road fire

LEXINGTON ó N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper David H. Deal has been honored for his actions during a fire on Peach Orchard Road in Rowan County in April 2008.
Reuben Young, secretary of the N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, and Col. Walter J. Wilson Jr., commander of the N.C. State Highway Patrol presented Deal the department’s Commendation Award and the Highway Patrol’s Samaritan Award in a ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Davidson Community College
“Trooper Deal’s actions made a difference on April 5, 2008, when he assisted a man that was found unconscious behind a burning house on Peach Orchard Road in Rowan County. He administered CPR until EMS arrived,” Young said. “He is to be commended for his actions.”
“Trooper Deal demonstrated good judgment by administering CPR until EMS arrived. This level of service exemplifies what it means to be a state trooper ó to serve others,” said Wilson.
The Commendation Award is the department’s second-highest award for heroism. The Commendation Award is presented to employees who prevent injury or death because of their actions.
