Traffic stop leads to couple’s arrest for meth ingredients

An Interstate 85 traffic stop resulted in a pair of drug arrests Wednesday afternoon.
Danny Lee Evans, 45, and his wife, Kathy Ann Evans, 46, both of Inglis, Fla., were charged with the manufacture of methamphetamines, and possession and distribution of a precursor chemical.
Both were being held Wednesday night in the Rowan County Detention Center under $50,000 bonds.
According to an arrest warrant filed at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office, Trooper T.J. Miles of the N.C. Highway Patrol stopped the couple near mile marker 78 shortly after 1 p.m.
During an inspection of the car, Miles discovered assorted chemicals ó iodine, hydrogen peroxide, muratic acid and red phosphorus, included ó used in the manufacture of methamphetamines.
The first court appearance for Danny and Kathy Evans is scheduled for this morning.
