The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of more than $26,000 in furniture, art and electronics from the home of a couple killed in a motorcycle crash.
Barry Stewart, 44, died on Aug. 9 on N.C. 152 at Corriher Grange Road when a car turned into the path of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he and his wife were on.
His wife, Cindy, 47, died Aug. 10.
Last Sunday, Shanna Makalen Stewart, daughter of Barry Stewart, called the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office to report that her parent’s home at 185 Mary Esther Lane, China Grove, had been entered and large number of items taken.
The home is in a development off North Enochville Avenue.
Among the items reported stolen is a 1976 Harley-Davidson motorcycle valued at $14,000.
Capt. John Sifford said the list of items taken runs more than two pages.
The list ranges from pottery to a 50-inch flat screen TV.
Other items include a wine rack, placemats, various pieces of art and bedroom items.
The information on the items taken has been entered in the National Crime Information Center database.
Sifford said investigators are looking at the possibility that the items may have been taken by other family members.
Sifford said Shanna Stewart lives at the house and filed the report along with her mother, Cindi Hall Stewart of Ed Weaver Road.
Sifford said investigators plan to talk with the district attorney to decide on possible charges.
