Teen pedestrian struck by van

A teenager trying to cross Jake Alexander Boulevard sustained severe head injuries when struck by a van around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The accident occurred near the intersection with Morlan Park Road.
Emergency crews on the scene initially called for a medical helicopter to transport the victim from the scene.
She was transported by Rowan EMS to Rowan Regional Medical Center and transported by a Carolinas Medical Center helicopter to the Charlotte hospital.
Acting Sgt. T.J. Crews of the Salisbury Police Department said the 17-year-old girl was running across the road near the intersection with Morlan Park when she was struck.
No other information was available at press time.
