Teen dies in crash; 17-year-old was trying to pass friend's truck on Centenary Church Road

A Salisbury teenager lost his life early Saturday morning on a rural Rowan County road.
Marc Joseph Payette, 17, driving a 1998 Dodge pickup, was trying to pass a friend’s truck on Centenary Church Road when the accident occurred.
The N.C. Highway Patrol reported that Payette’s truck struck the 2000 Ford pickup it was trying to pass, went out of control and hit a tree.
The accident occurred at 2:52 a.m. about 13 miles west of Salisbury.
Payette had no passengers in his truck.
The driver of the other truck was not taken to the hospital, according to reports.
Excessive speed contributed to the wreck, reports indicated. No other details were available Saturday night.
