The H1N1 vaccine has arrived to Rowan County, and as of 10 a.m. today, more than 100 people had received the vaccine.
The vaccine, which is actually a nasal spray, is available today at the Rowan County Health Department, 1811 E. Innes St. The health department received 700 doses of the vaccine.
“So far we’ve given the vaccine mostly to children,” said Leonard Wood, county health director.
A bigger crowd is expected this afternoon, after school gets out.
Anne Hall, a nurse at the Health Department, had given eight vaccines so far, and the oldest child who received it was 11 years old.
The age range for persons who can receive the vaccine is 2 to 49 years. Anyone who is pregnant, has a weakened immune system or a long-term health problem cannot receive the vaccine.
There are many other complications with the vaccine, so be sure to check with your healthcare provider before receiving it.
