Suspect charged in shooting of Kannapolis man

KANNAPOLIS ó A 23-year-old Kannapolis man was shot in the forehead Wednesday morning outside the Econo Lodge at 3100 Cloverleaf Parkway.
Kannapolis Police Department went to the motel following a 911 call at 11:21 a.m. and found Jerome Van Collins in the parking lot in front of room 125 with a gunshot wound to the head.
Witnesses at the scene gave a detailed description of the suspect, who ran across the street to the Mircrotel Inn at 3113 Cloverleaf Parkway. Officers found Abdirazak Abdirahman Farah, of 227 Hilltop Ave. S.W., Concord, in room 319, arrested him and found the firearm used in the incident, as well as other physical evidence linking him to the crime.
Collins’ friends took him him to CMC-NorthEast, where he was treated and released a short time later.
Farah has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Farah is in the Cabarrus County Detention Center on a $20,000 secured bond.
