The Mental Health Association of Stanly County held its 16th annual motorcycle rally and first Special Interest Auto Poker Run June 13. Money raised from the event goes to the agency’s emergency financial assistance program. We had a great turnout of first timers and repeaters for this event.
Awards presented to the biker group: Most recruited, Salisbury Chapter HOG; most money raised, Mike Eddins; weary traveler, Wayne Gibson from Colfax; junior participant, 10-year-old Kristyana Murphy; senior participant, Ken Laton.
Awards in the special interest auto group: Most recruited, Michael Crawford; junior participant, Jacob Steel; senior participant Tom Merritt; longest haul, Sarah Steel, of China Grove; best hand in poker run, Chuck Stevens; worst hand in poker run, George Thompson.
Mike Eddins, the group’s sponsored bike traveler, rode over 1,000 miles in 24 hours. Eddins is retired from the U.S. Navy and is a member of the Iron Butt Association, Motorcycles Tourers Forum and Southern Cruisers Riding Club.
Whispering Pines BBQ donated a barbeque picnic; Hardee’s in Albemarle donated sausage biscuits. Other donors were Krispy Kreme, Salisbury; Tilley’s Harley Davidson, Salisbury; and David Bright, Albemarle High School.
