Smoke in the J.W. Hood Building on the campus of Livingstone College was enough to drive staff outdoors on a cold morning Wednesday.
College spokesman State Alexander said sometime around 9 a.m., he saw smoke coming from the vents in one of the rooms.
As a precaution, the staff’s building captains and the college’s public safety staff evacuated the building and called the Salisbury Fire Department to investigate.
“We saw smoke and we smelled smoke. We saw smoke coming from the top vents,” Alexander said.
No fire was spotted. The Fire Department checked the building.
Alexander said there was a brown-out in the building. The computers weren’t working properly.
In addition to the college president’s staff, the building also houses the human resources department, a documents room and a recording studio, Alexander said.
The cause of the smoke was not available Wednesday.
