School supplies distribution today

With local children returning to class next week and the economy still in recession, the need for the Pencils for Pupils school supplies drive has never been greater.
Communities in Schools of Rowan County will distribute supplies today from 9 a.m. to noon at the former K-Town Furniture store at the corner of West Innes and North Fulton streets.
The supplies were collected through the Pencils for Pupils drive, co-sponsored by the Salisbury Post. They’ll be divided for children of elementary, middle and high school ages.
Organizers said donations were down this year to the Pencils for Pupils drive, but it’s not too late to help students and in need.
The U.S. Postal Service and WSOC-TV are sponsoring the School Tools Campaign. Postal carriers will be collecting supplies left at mailboxes along their routes today in certain zip codes (see www.wsoctv.com/school-tools for a list of zip codes) and donations may be taken to area post offices.
