The Salvation Army has federal funds available to people through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The purpose of this stimulus funding is to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
Rowan County residents who are currently unemployed or have experienced a loss in household income as a result of an adjustment in hours or permanent wage reduction may apply for assistance in the areas of rent/mortgage or utilities. Bills must be due within 5 days or an outstanding debt.
“More than ever, people are in need of help and The Salvation Army of Rowan County is pleased to be able to assist struggling families and individuals that have been impacted by the recent layoffs and wage reduction,” said Capt. Jason Smith, Corps Officer. “Through ARRA, we have been able to assist with nearly fifty individuals and/or families with rental and utility assistance,” he said.
Individuals may apply at The Salvation Army office, 620 Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, between 8:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m.
Please bring the following documentation to make an application for assistance: current unemployment benefits statement or a written verification from an employer regarding reduction in hours or wages, social security card for members of the household, and verification of income and expenses (copies of bills).
