CONCORD ó Lowe’s Motor Speedway will put its race cars in park on Sunday, Nov. 22, to make room for the inaugural Hendrick Marrow Program Half Marathon and 5K Walk/Run.
The half marathon will go down the zMAX Dragway, loop the perimeter of The Dirt Track, cross the pedestrian bridge and make a lap on the famous Lowe’s Motor Speedway before running through Morehead Farms Campground and returning to Lot Z.
Proceeds from this event will support the Hendrick Marrow Program, which rallies the racing community to add potential marrow donors to the Be The Match RegistrySM and helps patients in need of a marrow transplant.
“I’m excited that participants will have the opportunity to support the Hendrick Marrow Program and take advantage of such a unique race course,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “The timing of the event is perfect; once the awards ceremony concludes, fans can go home and watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup season finale from Homestead (Fla.).”
Registration will open at 6:30 a.m., with the half marathon starting at 8 a.m. and the 5K beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by AutoTrader.com, both races will begin and end in Lowe’s Motor Speedway’s Lot Z.
The event will then move less than one mile to the Hendrick Motorsports complex for an awards ceremony in Gatorade Victory Lane and the Pepsi Kids 100 Yard Dash.

Rick Hendrick established the Hendrick Marrow Program in 1997 after he was diagnosed with leukemia. He did not need a marrow transplant himself, but wanted to help other patients hoping to find a marrow match and a second chance at life.
The Hendrick Marrow Program works with Be The Match FoundationSM to support the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). It raises money to add more potential marrow donors to the NMDP’s Be The Match RegistrySM. It also helps patients pay for some uninsured transplant costs, which are often a barrier to treatment.
Since its inception, the Hendrick Marrow Program has raised more than $8 million, added more than 90,000 potential marrow donors to the Be The Match Registry, and eased the financial burden of more than 4,000 patients. For more information, visit hendrickmarrow.org or call 1-704-455-0343.
