Cynthia Morgan was charged with trafficking in opiate derivatives and sentenced Thursday to 90-117 months in prison.
Morgan, who was accused of forging prescriptions at pharmacies and then distributing the pills, could be one of the biggest pill suppliers in Rowan County, according to law enforcement officials.
Danny Dials of Salisbury Police and Kevin Myers of The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office collaborated to bring in the 42-year-old woman.
Morgan’s criminal record began in 2001 with a Class III DWI and has continued through more than 13 separate incidents.
Many in law enforcement believe that Morgan’s trial is simply the tip of the iceberg in the epidemic of prescription pill crimes that is plaguing Rowan County.
