Rowan unemployment 11.4 percent in January

Rowan County’s unemployment rate hit 11.4 percent in January, according to reports released today by the N.C. Employment Security Commission.
That’s up from 9.3 percent in December. The rate in January 2008 was 6.3 percent.
Cabarrus County’s unemployment rate was 10.1 this January, up from 8.5 percent the previous month.
Other surrounding counties and their latest unemployment rates are:
– Davidson County, 12.1 percent;
– Davie County, 10.3 percent;
– Iredell County, 11.7 percent;
– Stanly County, 12.1 percent.
The state unemployment rate was 9.7 percent in January ó the highest rate in more than 25 years, the state’s Employment Security Commission said. The state lost a total of 38,000 non-farm jobs in January.
