Rowan Helping Ministries-West has benefitted from two fundraisers in recent weeks.
Paul and Linda Rogers organized an Oct. 3 fundraiser at Patterson Farms that raised about $3,800.
The event included cloggers and gospel groups performing on a stage, a dunking booth and a silent auction of outings like sailboat cruises and golf rounds.
Paul Rogers said the food pantry for western Rowan started about two years ago. People in the community wanted to be self-sufficient, and not depend on RHM’s downtown Salisbury facility for help, he said.
This was the second annual fundraiser, he said, and it raised 27 percent more than last year’s event.
Last weekend, a corn shucking at Johnny Moore’s farm raised $1,208 for RHM-West, according to Dianne Scott, executive director of Rowan Helping Ministries.
“Western Rowan churches and volunteers are really supporting our satellite program in Mt.Ulla,” Scott said.
She said that, since July 1, 184 families have received 6,400 pounds of groceries and 23 households have received $4,500 in financial assistance vouchers.
