Former Rep. Robin Hayes was appointed to the board of directors of the United Services Organization of North Carolina at its annual retreat in Raleigh on Friday.
Hayes left Congress in January after 10 years in office. Democrat Larry Kissell won the November 2008 election for the 8th District.
“As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Robin worked tirelessly to champion the needs of our men and women in uniform, particularly the 145,000 serving in the state of North Carolina,” said USO-N.C. President John Falkenbury. “He is passionate still, and his participation in the USO of North Carolina is a natural fit.”
Appointed in April, Hayes is the newest member of the board.
The board voted unanimously at the meeting to adopt new vision and mission statements, which Hayes helped craft.
“We’ve grown rapidly from one facility in Jacksonville in 2004 to four throughout the state today. Our new mission and vision statements unite the centers under a common umbrella,” said Pete Gante, chairman of the board.
USO-N.C.’s vision is “leading the way in enriching the lives of America’s military in the Carolinas.” USO-N.C.’s mission is “to serve and support America’s military and their families.”
“Our hearts’ desire is to fill voids for military and their families. We want to meet their needs by being there for them as they serve for us at home and abroad,” said Hayes.
