N.C. Rep. Lorene Coates, a Democrat from Rowan County, has been appointed as co-chair of the Joint Legislative Utility Review Committee. The appointments were announced last week by House Speaker Joe Hackney.
The Committee is responsible for evaluating the actions of the North Carolina Utilities Commission, including the review of its interim and final orders, so the General Assembly may better judge whether these actions serve the best interest of the individual and corporate citizens of North Carolina.
“I am pleased to have an opportunity to serve in such a key position,” Coates said. “This appointment will allow me to serve both the citizens of the State and the people of my district who have a strong interest in these important issues.”
Among other things, the committee will analyze the operations of the utility companies doing business in North Carolina, including review of their programs, projects, sources and amounts of income.
