RCCC to offer free career workshops

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s R3 Center is offering numerous career development workshops and resume clinics in September for adults in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. All programs are provided for free.
Located at 164 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis, the R3 Center is a career development center established to assist workers who are unemployed or under-employed.

Blair’s wife to speak at Charlotte business event
Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, will speak at The Women’s Intercultural Exchange’s 2009 Multicultural Women’s Conference: Building Trust Across Race & Culture ńA Business Essential. The event is Oct. 20 at 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Johnson C. Smith University. Aimed at building and strengthening relationships among women across race and ethnicity, the half-day conference will engage more than 300 people in dialogue on building, restoring and retaining trust.
Blair will speak about the persisting gender gap in businesses across the world and how improved access to networks, information and resources can strengthen the capacity of women entrepreneurs worldwide.

Free yoga classes offered in Kannapolis this month
September is National Yoga Month, and yoga studios across the country will offer free yoga classes for a week.
YogaMoxie Studio in Kannapolis is participating. National Yoga Month is designed to educate, inspire and generate awareness of the positive impact of yoga on health.
During the upcoming H.A.R.V.E.S.T. Health and Wellness Festival at the North Carolina Research Campus on Sept. 12, YogaMoxie Studio will have a booth with educational displays and pamphlets, class schedules and coupons. The studio also offers Yoga Therapy and will offer free 15-minute muscle balance screenings at the health fair as well. A free yoga class and demonstration will be given during the morning.

Chief operating officer at Lake Norman hospital
Lake Norman Regional Medical Center announces Todd Dixon as its new Chief Operating Officer. Dixon began his duties with the hospital Aug. 24.
Dixon was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney, S.C., where he previously held the position of Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to his tenure in Gaffney, he was Chief Nursing Officer at Elbert Memorial Hospital in Elberton, Ga.
Dixon earned a bachelor of science degree in history and in nursing from Lander University in Greenwood, S.C., and he received a masters degree in business administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
He has been a registered nurse for 14 years with experience in medical intensive care, neurosurgical intensive care, critical care, cardiovascular intensive care, cardiac cath lab and cardiovascular research. Dixon is married to Jennifer Dixon, and they have three children.
Salisbury gets senior moving company
Jo Kearns, a senior move manager, has founded Smart Choice Senior Transitions LLC and is a member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers.
Smart Choice Senior Transitions specializes in assisting older adults and their families with household downsizing and relocation. The company also provides aging-in-place services, including working with remodeling contractors. Smart Choice Senior Transitions serves Rowan and surrounding counties.

Mountain State N.C. campus new exec. director
Mountain State University announces Jack McCaskill of Newton, N.C., as executive director of the North Carolina campus. McCaskill will oversee all functions, personnel and facilities in Mooresville as well as the university’s site in Hickory.
McCaskill earned a master of arts in management from Webster University and a bachelor of science in political science from Missouri State University. He is a graduate of National Security Management Course with Industrial College of Armed Forces, National Defense Strategy Program with U.S. Army War College and a graduate of U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a professional certification in education and training with the National Security Agency.
Prior to joining Mountain State, McCaskill served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. His background also includes serving as vice-president of corporate learning and training for United Auto Group in Scottsdale, Ariz., as well as director of human resources and corporate learning for Hickory Auto Group.
