The Salisbury Post reported to Salisbury Police on Tuesday the paper had published a classified ad that is apparently fraudulent.
The ad is for a medical associate, calling for “strong computer skills, attention to detail, billing background helpful.” The ad lists an 888 phone number.
The paper’s records indicate the ad was placed by a Dr. David Malloy. However, the same phone number has been used in classified ads in other parts of the country, including Cleveland, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
A Post employee found the ad was not legitimate after checking the phone number on the Internet. She contacted authorities immediately.
