Police continued investigating Tuesday after a Salisbury man was found dead in a wooded area off Old Wilkesboro Road Monday night.
A person walking along a path found the body of Jason Tyrone Heggins, 21, of 429 Pinewood Ave., in the vicinity of 2200 Old Wilkesboro Road, behind Gamewell Mechanical.
Heggins was shot multiple times, authorities said.
He was not buried, but lying on the top of the ground, said Deputy Chief Steve Whitley.
“He had not been dead long,” Whitley said.
He said it’s not uncommon for people to walk along that path.
This is the first murder of 2009 in Rowan County.
