The third annual Salisbury Paws in the Park dog walk fundraiser, an event of Rowan Surge and the LandTrust for Central North Carolina, has been set for Saturday, Sept. 26.
The event will be at Knox Middle School, 1625 West Park Road. Registration and check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the 1.5-mile walk will start at 10:30 a.m.
Immediately following the walk, Doggie Olympics, put on by Lazy 5 Ranch Veterinary Services, will begin. The events will consist of best dressed, most talented, marshmallow toss, musical sit, fastest dog and timed eating contests. A medal ceremony for these events will be held at 1:15 p.m.
The entry fee is $12 per person, regardless of the number of dogs in attendance. This will cover the cost of registration and event T-shirt. Individuals under the age of 12 walk for free and may purchase event T-shirts while supplies last. The Doggie Olympics fee is $5 per participating dog.
Funds raised will help support public outreach and conservation education initiatives of the LandTrust for Central North Carolina and Faithful Friends Animal Shelter, an animal rescue group created to establish a no-kill animal sanctuary in Rowan County and No Pet Left Behind Spay/Neuter Clinic. All are nonprofit organizations established to benefit Rowan County.
A Port-A-Pit dinner has been added and will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the J.F. Hurley Family YMCA in Salisbury. Tickets will be $8 and available for pickup between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Delivery will be offered for orders of more than 10 plates. Tickets can be purchased through Paws in the Park committee members and at all Friday Night Out events in downtown Salisbury beginning July 17.
Great Dane sponsors of the event include Lazy 5 Veterinary Services Inc. and Community One. Additional sponsors include Angela Hall, CPA, Dr. Brandon Aron, Edward Jones (John Philpott and Jolene Philpott), Jarrell Contractors, Miller Davis Inc., Salisbury Pediatrics and Walser Technology.
