Air pollution in North Carolina and the cause of surface ozone will be the topic of a Sept. 17 presentation at the Center for the Environment facility on the Catawba College campus.
Dr. Viney Aneja, North Carolina State University’s Air Quality Research Director and a professor in N.C. State’s Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, will elaborate on the state’s poor air quality at the 7 p.m. event. At N.C. State University, Aneja has developed one of the nation’s leading agricultural air-quality research programs. He is frequently sought as a lecturer and consultant to the federal and state governments, professional societies, international organizations and the private sector on issues related to environmental science and public policy. A prolific writer, he has published more than 250 papers, articles and book chapters as well as one book.
Aneja has received multiple awards for his industrial and academic research, including the 2007 North Carolina Award in Science, the highest award a civilian can receive from the governor of North Carolina.
He has held a number of leadership positions in his field, including director of the Air and Waste Management Association, Governor’s Task Force on Hazardous Materials and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board.
Aneja holds a Ph.D. from N.C. State University and an MBA from Union College in Schenectady, NY. His undergraduate degree is from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India.
