The city of Salisbury’s fiber-optic cable utility, now under construction, played a major role in North Hills Christian School’s request for annexation.
Salisbury City Council approved the school’s satellite annexation Tuesday.
The voluntary annexation will take effect Dec. 31 and includes all of the school’s 17.1 acres at 2970 W. Innes St.
Matt Mitchell, head of the school, said North Hills is in the process of installing a multi-faceted technology program that would greatly benefit from the city’s fiber-to-the-home initiative.
By June 2010, Salisbury hopes to be offering telephone, television and Internet services to customers in the city. Contracting crews are now in the process of laying conduit and cable underground and on utility poles.
A satellite annexation means that North Hills is not contiguous to the current city limits, though it is close.
Mayor Pro Tem Paul Woodson said he was delighted the school wanted to be annexed and looked forward to being connected to the city’s cable utility.
