N.C. Railroad Co. hosting forum on future of rail service

RALEIGH ó Experts from freight and passenger train services will share their views on the future of train service across the state during a forum March 19.
The N.C. Railroad Co. is hosting the forum as part of its 2030 long-range planning effort.
The experts will share their insights and answer questions about costs, benefits, environmental challenges and potential partnerships.The forum, titled “Progress in Motion: 2030,” will include newly appointed N.C. Secretary of Transportation Eugene A. Conti Jr., former Gov. Jim Hunt and James McClellan, a former senior strategic planning official with Norfolk Southern.
Business leaders, economic developers and local government representatives will also attend.
The morning session will look at freight rail service and the rail industry as an economic engine. The afternoon session will focus on passenger service and transit-driven investment.
