More than 100 workers recalled to Freightliner’s Gastonia plant

GASTONIA (AP) ó More than 100 workers are being recalled to truck plants in western North Carolina.
The Gaston Gazette reported Friday that Daimler Trucks North America plans to recall more than 100 workers at plants in Gaston County.
Daimler Trucks spokeswoman Amy Sills says 35 workers are being recalled temporarily to cover summer vacation schedules at a plant in Holly Hill.
About 22 people are being hired to work at a company warehouse in Gastonia.
Scott McAllister with the United Auto Workers 5286 says Daimler is recalling up to 60 workers at the Gastonia Parts and Components Plant. McAllister says those workers are being called to supply a second shift at a new truck manufacturing plant in Mexico.
Almost 2,300 jobs have been cut from Daimler plants in Gaston County over the past two years.
