Lionel Vela
Army Pvt. Lionel D. Vela has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
He is the son of Rosemary Williams of Salisbury and Tagumpay Vela of Harbor City, Calif.
Justin Harrington
Justin Lee Harrington of Landis was sworn into the US Marines Corp on Jan. 21, 2009, in Charlotte .
He left for Paris Island for 13 weeks of basic training and then one month at Camp Lejeune for military combat training. Harrington has chosen to work in combat vehicle repair.
He is the son of Wayne Harrington of Landis and Mitzi Bettendorf of Concord, and brother to Cory Harrington. His grandparents are Charles and Gail Harrington and Niki Harrington, all of Kannapolis, and Buck and Shirley Martin of Landis.
Harrington is a 2008 graduate of J. C. Carson High School.
Kati Sherrill
Army National Guard Pvt. Kati L. Sherrill has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, she studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Sherrill is the daughter of Phyllis Sherrill of Salisbury and granddaughter of James Sherrill of Mooresville.
She is a 2008 graduate of West Rowan High School.
