Military: Fisher completes Coast Guard basic training

Charles Malvern Fisher of Salisbury completed an eight-week course of Basic Military Training at the United States Coast Guard Academy in Cape May, N. J. on May 29, before leaving for his next duty assignment.
The Department of Homeland Security and the American Council on Education Credit recommends for such that credit be awarded in beginning swimming, personal fitness/conditioning, health and first aid and boating/seamanship in the lower division Baccalaureate Association degree category for this course of study.
In addition, Seaman Fisher obtained firefighter training, rated competent in marksmanship and law enforcement activities as well as received a National Defense ribbon signifying his military enrollment during a time of heightened national security.
As part of America’s maritime guardian force, Fisher’s assignments will include patrolling the United States coastlines, drug interdictions, emergency disaster response and other activities to ensure that citizens and borders are protected. He has signed on for a minimum six-year stint.
Fisher, a native of Chicago, Ill., is a graduate of Henderson Independent High School. He is the son of Dr. Ada M. Fisher of Salisbury.
