Kim Webster knows all too well the inside of a neonatal intensive care unit. Three of her children, twins Rachel and Bailey and Valerie, were there for a time.
Kim and her husband, Worth, and their three daughters are the Ambassador Family for March of Dimes’ 2009 Rowan County March for Babies.
Through the March for Babies campaign, the family will share their story to bring awareness and raise funds for research, education and assistance to families.
Rachel and Bailey were born premature. They are now healthy 6-year-olds. Valerie was full term, but spent time in the NICU. She is a healthy 3 year old.
“Nothing can ever really prepare you for the emotional toll of your baby having to stay in the hospital,” Kim said.
The family is grateful to serve as the 2009 Ambassador Family.
“The scariest moments of my life were those sitting in the NICU. Now I’m raising money for March for Babies so no other families will have to face such scary moments,” Kim said.
March for Babies will take place Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Catawba College.
In 2008, Rowan County March for Babies raised more than $5,000 with more than 200 walkers who represented 60 companies, families and organizations.
Participants can raise money as an individual; walk as part of a team; be invited by family, friends or co-workers; volunteer their time during the walk and ask friends to sponsor them.
The walk route will be 3.1 miles. It will take an hour for a person to walk at a steady pace.
Kim works at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and her husband works for Ray’s Asphalt and Paving.
Donations for this agency can be made through individuals, businesses or teams.
