KANNAPOLIS ó A 25-year-old Kannapolis man has been charged with arranging the first-degree rape of his wife.
The Post is not identifying the man to protect the identity of the victim.
According to a Kannapolis Police Department statement, the man had used personal ads on craigslist.org “in an effort to arrange for someone to come to his home and have sex with his wife using some type of scare tactic.”

911 Audio

Around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Kannapolis officers responded to a 911 call to a home off Shiloh Church Road. The caller indicated a man armed with a knife appeared in the couple’s bedroom and sexually assaulted the woman.
On the call, a portion of which the police department released Wednesday, a distraught woman tells the 911 dispatcher, “Someone just broke into my house and raped me.”
The dispatcher asks the woman if she can provide a description of the man who assaulted her.
“He was medium build,” the victim says on the recording. “He was African-American. … He had jeans on.”
The dispatcher confirms the man has left the house and asks if he left in a vehicle.
“I don’t know,” the woman says. “He had a knife.”
Police said the victim’s husband was present in the bedroom during the crime. Two small children were also present in the home at the time of the incident but were not aware of what was taking place, according to police.
Following the assault, the victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast where she underwent an examination and interview. According to the press release from Kannapolis Police, she sustained no serious injuries and was released a short time later.
Investigators interviewed the victim and her husband and became suspicious when they found no sign of forced entry into the home.
Investigators also found inconsistencies in the initial statement given by the husband.
On Tuesday, the police statement said, investigators discovered the husband had responded to at least two personal ads on craigslist.org attempting to find someone to assault his wife.
Investigators believe the husband arranged the crime without the knowledge or consent of his wife.
The husband was arrested Wednesday and placed in the Cabarrus County Jail with no bond. He is charged with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual offense and attempted sexual offense in the first degree.
Police have identified the suspect in the rape, but had not arrested him Wednesday evening.
Investigators ask anyone with additional information about the crime to call the Kannapolis Police Department at 704-920-4000.
