Man charged in beating of ex-wife with baseball bat

CHINA GROVE ó A man is now sitting in jail after authorities say he hit his ex-wife with a baseball bat, sending her to the hospital.
Police in China Grove charged James Clifton Kendrick Jr., 53, of 205 Ross St., China Grove, with assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury Thursday. He hit the woman with a wooden ball bat, an arrest warrant said.
The woman was sent to Rowan Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released the same day.
Kendrick remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under $7,500 bond.
