Man airlifted to hospital after crash on Sherrills Ford Road
The driver of a motorcycle was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Friday evening after he and his bike went airborne on Sherrills Ford Road.
The man drove his bike off the right side of the road, up an embankment and continued airborne toward a house.
The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Friday between Barringer Road and Neel Road.
Rusty Alexander, chief of the Locke Fire Department, said the man landed beside the house and the bike landed some 75 feet away.
The man, described as in his 20s, was conscious and talking at the scene. His name was not immediately available.
He was transported to Rowan Regional Medical Center and airlifted from the hospital.
Alexander said medical personnel opted to call for a medical helicopter due to the possibility of internal injuries.
A report from the N.C. Highway Patrol was not available.
