Salisbury/Rowan Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and Food Lion LLC, along with Novant Health and other sponsors, will host the chapter’s third annual 2009 Autumn Soiree, its major fundraiser to benefit the chapter’s scholarship foundation.
The event will be on Sept. 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Catawba College’s Peeler Crystal Lounge.
“The success of this event has allowed the chapter to award five $1,000 scholarships over the last two years,” said Todd Adrian, president of the Salisbury/Rowan chapter. “We are very proud that this PFLAG chapter is the first organization in North Carolina to award scholarships specifically to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, and/or their straight allies.”
Once again, this year’s event will be a silent auction/raffle type fundraiser, with food, beverage and entertainment.
The evening will feature keynote speaker Anne Stanback, a Salisbury native, who formerly served as Executive Director of “Love Makes A Family” in Hartford and was influential in Connecticut’s becoming the second state in the nation to win the freedom to marry for same-sex couples.
Chef Matt Trexler and his staff at Creative Gourmet Catering will provide food. Entertainment will be provided by the Charlotte Gay Men’s Chorus.
Many local businesses, artists, members and friends have donated items for auction and raffle this year.
Dress is casual and the cover charge is $20. Tickets may be purchased at A Step In Time, Critters or Wooden Stone Gallery in downtown Salisbury.
