LANDIS ó Jimmy Pless of Kannapolis, 62, was killed when trying to stop a runaway golf cart that contained a toddler.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Saturday during a horse show at Austin Stables on Jefferson Street in Landis.
Lt. Mark Benfield of the Landis Police Department said a 2-year-old fell into a parked golf cart at the stables, hitting the gas pedal and disengaging the brakes.
One person tried to stop the cart, but could not. Pless then tried, but was knocked over, and dragged underneath the cart.
He was pronounced dead later at Carolinas Medical Center, Benfield said. The 2-year-old was not hurt.
