KANNAPOLIS ó A Kannapolis firefighter was treated for heat-related injuries this morning after battling a fire at 504 Hyde St., off Little Texas Road, according to a release from his department.

The Fire Department responded to a call concerning the fire At 10:34 a.m.

Upon arrival at 10:39 a.m. fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. Firefighters quickly made access to the fire. They extinguished the blaze; which had spread into the attic.

Residents were not home at the time.  The Cabarrus County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting this family.   

One Kannapolis firefighter was taken to CMC-NorthEast and treated for heat-related injuries.  

Fire investigators are working at the scene.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
