Gov. Bev. Perdue is assembling a task force to address unemployment in North Carolina, she said at a press conference at Livingstone College on Thursday.
The task force, which has “federal partners,” will utilize the model followed when the Pillowtex plants closed in the area, she said.
With recent losses of 11,000 jobs, North Carolina has been hit hard, particularly in Charlotte, where the banking sector has slashed jobs.
The problem is not limited to the state, she continued, referring to the issues across America and the global economic problems. “There are no easy answers,” she said.
Regarding the Yadkin River bridge, Perdue confirmed she has talked to members of Congress and “President Obama is aware” this is the “most endangered bridge in the nation.”
She added she is hopeful something will be done about funding its replacement.
“Remember, I drive over that bridge frequently,” she said.
Perdue also confirmed her plans for a Charlotte office, which should be open sometime in March, she said.
