Home Depot won’t be coming to Salisbury any time soon, according to a spokesman for the Georgia-based hardware and garden retailer.
Home Depot had bought just less than 14 acres off Julian Road and had planned to build there. That property is now up for sale.
Craig Fishel, a spokesman for Home Depot, said the company changed its approach and is putting more money into existing stores. Plans for 50 stores across the nation have been canceled, and the anticipated Salisbury store was one of those.
The change in strategy is partly because of the economy but also just a corporate decision, Fishel said.
Calls to The Shopping Center Group, which is selling the property, and Collett and Associates, the Charlotte developer working on Wallace Commons, were not returned.
