Harvey Gantt, the first African-American mayor of Charlotte, will speak at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Thursday.
Gantt will speak from noon to 1 p.m. in the Teaching Auditorium at the North Campus off Jake Alexander Boulevard. The program is open to the public.
A graduate of Clemson University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Gantt ran two unsuccessful campaigns as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat held by the late Jesse Helms. He is an architect with Gantt-Hubberman Architect of Charlotte.
Rowan-Cabarrus’ Men Inspiring Success Through Education & Role Modeling (M.I.S.T.E.R.) is hosting Gantt. The club seeks to create a supportive relationship among minority male students and develop clear direction through education, leadership and encouragement.
M.I.S.T.E.R. promotes campus involvement, guidance and individual growth.
