Four passengers were injured in a one-vehicle accident at 185 Gheen Road Tuesday night near the U.S. 601 intersection.
The accident was reported to Rowan 911 Communications at 8:35 p.m. by someone on a cell phone. Trooper C.M. Agner of the N.C. Highway Patrol said the 1996 Plymouth Voyager mini-van ran off the road to the right and came to rest on a big stone, which was part of a row of stones used to help with ditch drainage.
Agner said the driver of the vehicle, Billy Lee Fox, 49, told him he swerved to the right to avoid hitting a deer. No charges were filed.
Fox’s wife, Karen Miller Fox, 41, and two other passengers, 2-year-old Joshua Lee Elijah Fox and 40-year-old Carla Platt, were in the vehicle. Billy Fox and Carla Platt were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, according to Platt, and he is still in the hospital. She was treated and released.
She said the other two passengers were treated and released at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
