The Salisbury Fire Department is sponsoring an Area Fire Department Chili Cook-Off this evening as part of Earth Night Out in downtown Salisbury.
Participating fire departments include Salisbury, Locke, Granite Quarry, Faith, Spencer and Bostian Heights. The chili cook-off will be held at 100 W. Innes St. in front of Growing Pains Family Consignment Shop.
Judging will be held at 6:30 p.m. A bowl of chili and drink will sell for $3.
Entertainment will be provided by “Melvis and Marilyn Monroe.”
Proceeds will benefit the Rowan County United Way’s Layoff Assistance Fund, which helps county residents who have lost their jobs due to layoffs or plant closings with mortgage payments, rent, utilities and school uniforms and supplies.
A three-month free membership to the YMCA of Rowan County is also offered through the Layoff Assistance Fund.
