Salisbury police have charged a fourth person who they say took advantage of an elderly man in February and used his money to buy drugs.
Lisa Amanda Threatte, 25, of 1206 Birch St., Salisbury, was charged Wednesday with felony exploitation of an elder/disabled adult.
According to an arrest report, the woman turned herself in to authorities.
The incident occurred Feb. 24.
Police say Threatte and three others convinced an 85-year-old man they were relatives. They took the man to local banks around town, including one in China Grove, to withdraw his money. Employees at one bank recognized the victim and contacted law enforcement.
The group took the man to various stores, where they bought food and cigarettes and eventually drugs.
Later in the day, the suspects left the man at a bank and took off. His car was found at a mobile home park.
Police say Threatte is the final suspect they expect to charge in the case.
Last week, authorities charged Kannapolis resident Karen Renee Staton, 40. Staton remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a charge of failure to appear in court and an $11,000 secured bond.
Frankie Lee Williams, 27, was charged March 17 and remains in jail. Wayne Morgan Coley Jr., 31, was arrested the night of the crime after a high-speed chase. He has since been released.
