LANDIS ó Back by popular demand, Trinity Lutheran Church, Landis, will host the Appalachian State University Gospel Choir today, beginning at 5 p.m. in Fisher Hall in the Vertie A. Lipe Ministry Center.Admission is free, but seating is limited. Doors open at 4:30.
Trinity is located at 108 W. Rice St. behind Landis Town Hall.
The choir, under the direction of Jason Thompson, will present “Mustard Seed Faith … Mountain Size Praise.”
Gospel choir members from the surrounding area are Marcie Trivette, Jashada Bailey, Philip Bennett, all of Concord; Elizabeth Kirk and Laura Buckley, both of Kannapolis; Amy Hipp and Cidney Tiggett, both of Salisbury; and David Nantz and Sara Babcock, both of Mooresville.
Antioch Baptist
CLEVELAND ó Antioch Baptist Church will have installation services for their new pastor, the Rev. David Leaven, 3 p.m. this Sunday.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. John Leazer of Macedonia Baptist Church, Concord, and his congregation will accompany him.
Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. with morning service beginning at 9:45 a.m.

‘The Runaway’
The First Church of the Nazarene, 224 W. 12th St., will host Becca Roach-Kaminsk with her program titled “The Runaway: Secrets of a Preacher Child” Sunday at 11 a.m.
Roach-Kaminsk will tell her life story and share her testimony. She will also be singing.

Remnant in Christ Outreach Worship Center will have a pre-pastoral anniversary program on Sunday at 4 p.m.Pastor Thomas Wyatt of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ will be the speaker. The program is hosted by the Pastor’s Aide Committee and will be held at 627 Newsome Road, Salisbury.
Prophetess Miriam Parker Keller is the host pastor.
White Rock AME Zion
GRANITE QUARRY ó White Rock AME Zion Church will celebrate its 103rd anniversary this Sunday.
The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. with the presiding elder of the Salisbury District AME Zion Churches, the Rev. Herbert R. Warren Jr., delivering the morning message.
Lunch will be served immediately following the service.
The 3 p.m. speaker will be the Rev. The Rev. William Gullick is host pastor.
Midway UMC
KANNAPOLIS ó Midway United Methodist Church,708 S. Main Street, Kannapolis, will have two lay speakers this Sunday.
At the 9 a.m. contemporary worship, Adam Love will speak on the topic, “Did You Hear That?” At the 10:55 a.m. service, Patton Long’s topic is “Mad Cow.”
Piano concert
First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury will host a piano concert on Saturday, April 25, at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Paul E. Oakley, associate professor of music at Catawba College, will be the featured pianist. He will be joined by several members of the Catawba choir. The public is welcome.
Rose of Sharon
Rose of Sharon Holiness Church is having a three bear’s program Sunday at 3 p.m. The speakers are Minister Nadine Smith, Minister Margaret Ledbetter and Minister Mary A. Young.

Holy Tabernacle
Holy Tabernacle of Jesus Christ, 325 Malcolm Road, will celebrate the 20th church anniversary of Pastor Priscilla Overstreet and co-pastor Calvin Overstreet at 7:30 p.m. April 22-23 and during the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26 service. There will be no service on Saturday.
The speaker for Wednesday will be co-pastor Overstreet, on Thursday, Bishop W. Donner of Newton and Friday, Bishop Dalton of Mocksville.
On Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, the speaker will be Evangelist D. Reddick of Richmond, Va., and at the 4 p.m. service the speaker will be Pastor McKinnon of Statesville.

New Smith Chapel
There will be an annual evangelistic revival, April 15-17 at New Smith Chapel Pentecostal Church, 8025 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury. Services are 7:30 each night.

The speaker Thursday night will be Evangelist JoAnn Tate.

First UMC women
The United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church will present “The Rooms of Your Life” Women’s Luncheon on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at FUMC fellowship hall.
There will be a guest speaker, shopping, salad luncheon, drawings for prizes and a silent auction.
Jean Padgett of Chapin, S.C., will present an inspirational program called “The Rooms of Your Life.” She uses a miniature dollhouse to demonstrate that our heart is Christ’s home. Jean compares the rooms of the house to daily activities, relationships, spiritual growth, and ministry.

Faith Baptist
FAITH ó Faith Baptist Church invites the public to hear speaker Bill Saye in revival April 19-22.
The former runaway and gang leader became involved in organized crime. He ran a five-state prostitution ring and became a “drug king” before being arrested for murder.
In the prison chapel, he turned his life over to Christ, and became an evangelist upon release from prison in 1983.
He has been featured on TBN, 700 Club, Atlanta Live and has written two books.

Calvary Baptist
Calvary Baptist Church will be having revival services beginning at 11 a.m. this Sunday and continuing through Wednesday evening, April 22.
The evangelist for the week will be the Rev. Brent Barker, associational missionary, Rowan Southern Baptist Association.
Barker is originally from Rowan County where he attended North Rowan High School. After graduating from N.C. State University with a B.S. degree in engineering, he attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with a M.Div. degree in pastoral ministry. He is currently completing his dissertation for his D.Min. degree from NOBTS.
Barker is married to the former Laura Ward of Houston, Texas, and has two children, Wesley and Laura Katherine, who attend North Rowan High School. Barker is the son of Carolyn Barker of Salisbury and the late David Barker.
Each night has a special theme. Sunday night will be “Children’s Night,” when the children will come early for pizza and colas, meet the evangelist and attend the service.
Monday night will be covered dish night. Family and friends are invited to attend this evening, have dinner, meet the evangelist and attend the services.
Tuesday evening will be “Pack-a-Pew” night when members will be inviting people from the community and work to the service.
Wednesday evening will be Youth Night. The church’s youth will invite friends to come early for pizza and colas, meet the evangelist and attend the service.
Pastor Rick Cockerham invites the public to attend these services.
A nursery will be provided during the 7 p.m. service.

First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church of Salisbury will be having revival services beginning this Sunday at 11 a.m. There will be evening services, Sunday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The guest evangelist will be Dr. Jim Harris, presently the interim pastor of Community Baptist of Salisbury.
For over 50 years, Harris has served as pastor and evangelist, being pastor of churches in Washington, Texas, California, West Virginia and North Carolina.
He has spent about 11 years in full-time evangelism. During that time he preached in most of the states of the U.S. and many evangelistic mission trips to several overseas countries.
Following Sunday’s morning service there will be a covered-dish luncheon.
The youth are hosting a pizza party at 6 p.m. Sunday prior to the evening service. And there will be a hot dog supper for the children at 6 p.m. Monday evening prior to the service.
The church’s music ministry has prepared exciting musical specials for every service.
A nursery will be provided for each service and the public is invited to attend.

Earth Day at First UMCJason Walser, executive director for the Land Trust for Central North Carolina, will deliver the message for First United Methodist Church’s new worship service, journey@first, this Sunday at 9 a.m. The service will be held in the chapel of First United Methodist Church located on the corner of South Church Street and Bank Street
“The Nature of God” will be Walser’s message in connection with the celebration of Earth Day. The public is invited. Non-perishable goods will be collected for Rowan Helping Ministries as journey@first reaches out to help those in need in our community.
Also this Sunday, the Land Trust for Central North Carolina and Boy Scout Troop 442 from First UMC will host a canoe trip down the South Yadkin River to showcase some of the natural wonders of our region. Organ concert
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., presents Kristin Farmer in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday as the first in their upcoming organ concert series.
Farmer has been heard throughout the United States in recital, including the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C. A member of the Organ Historical Society for 25 years, she served on the National Council, was president 1990-94, and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Society in 2000.
She is a member of the American Guild of Organists, served as dean of chapters in Columbia, S.C., as well as Winston-Salem and is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national honorary music fraternity.
Having held numerous positions as organist and director of music, she recently retired after serving 19 years at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Winston-Salem.
This concert is made possible by a generous gift of Dr. Dale Higbee, and is free and open to the public.
The next organ concert will be Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. featuring Mary Louise Kapp Peeples.
The St. John’s Men’s Chorus annual Spring Benefit Concert will be held on Sunday, May 17 at 4 p.m. at St. John’s. Proceeds from a free-will offering will go to Rowan Helping Ministries.
Lifeline Pentecostal
Lifeline Triumphant Pentecostal Church, 329 N. Lee St., is celebrating their 16th church anniversary with “Ready for What’s Next! Manifestation, Multiplication and Enlargement!” (Is. 54:2 and 3).

Jim Savage, Pacific area director for Wycliffe Associates Bible translators, and his wife, Shelley, a volunteer coordinator, will be the speakers for a banquet at 7 p.m. on May 1 at Holiday Inn on Jake Alexander Blvd. The couple will share how lives are being transformed through the work of Bible translation.

WOODLEAF ó A special service will be held at historic St. George’s Episcopal Church, Woodleaf, at 3 p.m. Sunday.St. George’s was designated a historic church in 2007 by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina.
From 1893 through 1906, St. George’s was a chapel of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Woodleaf (established in 1840). The church was built in 1893 and remodeled in 1928. St. George’s was named for the Rev. George Badger Wetmore, who served as a priest in North Carolina from 1855 to 1888, including serving as priest-in-charge at St. Andrew’s.The celebrant will be the Rev. Kenneth H. Saunders III, who serves Christ Episcopal Church in Cleveland as the 33rd rector since 1754. Davis Cooke and choir members from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Salisbury, will present special music.

Saint Therese CatholicMOORESVILLE ó Saint Therese Catholic Church of Mooresville, has received the “Fellowship Actions Improving The Habitat,” or FAITH certification from the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. The program is a non-denominational initiative designed to recognize and certify places of worship that meet the requirements for a wildlife-friendly habitat.
The site extends 24 acres, with nest boxes for bluebirds, owls and wood ducks. Native plant gardens surround the area providing food and cover for butterflies, birds and important pollinating insects. Feeding stations for birds, a meditation area and a rose garden further provide testament of this beautiful stewardship site.
Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists, the local NCWF chapter, will have a booth at the church’s Earth Day Festival, set for 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 25, when the FAITH sign will be consecrated and placed on the grounds.
The event will feature activities and displays on recycling, composting and gardening for wildlife.
