First United Methodist Church invites the public to visit on Saturday, Oct. 10 during the Historic Salisbury Foundation’s October Tour.
Director of Music Ministries Matthew Brown will be playing the organ in the sanctuary periodically from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to sit and listen to the music and view the handcrafted banners. Members will be there as greeters with church cookbooks and magnets on sale.
Orders will be taken for Brown’s soon-to-be released CD of organ music. Proceeds from the CD sales will go toward the church organ fund.
On the church front lawn, the youth of FUMC will have a fundraiser for the building fund project. They will sell hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and popcorn.
They will also have a corn hole game, face painting and cut-outs with old- fashioned clothing for picture- taking.
Solid Rock
Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will be in revival Oct. 6-8 at 7 p.m. each evening.
Guest revivalists are: Tuesday, the Rev. John Bankhead Jr., associate minister of Jerusalem Baptist Church; Wednesday, the Rev. Michael Flowers, pastor of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Waxhaw; Thursday, the Rev. David A. Lockhart, pastor of First Church of God, Concord.
St. John’s Lutheran
St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., will be the local host of a world-wide prayer event for women on Nov. 14.
The event is being held by Moms In Touch, an international prayer group for women concerned about their own children as well as the children and schools of the world. The prayer meeting will run from 9-11 a.m.
The program of prayer titled “Arise! Cry Out!” will originate in San Diego, Calif. on Oct. 9-11 for taping of the event which will be shown in churches throughout the world on Nov. 14 by video celebration.
Women in the Rowan Community are invited to meet at St. John’s to pray for the spiritual lives of children and to unite as one voice to spread hope for the well being of our local children and schools.

Each week, St. John’s invites community members to join in a Prayer Walk to develop community ties and get exercise on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Those who wish to share prayers for our community are invited to meet on the lawn at the chapel for a walk to various schools, government offices and the scenes of local needs in and around the St. John’s area.
St. John’s. congregation invites the community for Wednesday meals in the fellowship hall and for weekly small group meetings, including an ALPHA group and a study of Judaism, following the meal. Meals, which are served at 5:30 p.m., cost $3 per person and meetings afterward are free of charge.
Northside Church
Northside Church of God of Prophecy, 730 North Long St. will hold revival services Oct. 7 through 9 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
Guest preachers include Minister Mary A. Young of Northside C.O.G.O.P., the Rev. Charles Gray of Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Huntersville and the Rev. Alonza Williams of Shady Grove Baptist Church of East Spencer.
Sunday, Oct. 11, a homecoming celebration will be held with services at 11 a.m., with Bishop James J. Lott, pastor at Northside.
At 4 p.m., the speaker will be Bishop Floyd D. Collins of Stanton Place C.O.G.O.P.

Shady Grove Baptist
On Sunday at 3 p.m. the Shady Grove Baptist Church Senior Choir will celebrate its 87th anniversary, featuring the Evangelaires of Lexington and the Voices of Morning Star of Charlotte.
Special guest will be Bro. James McGill of WGIV 1370 AM and FM and a member of the Voices of Morning Star.

St. John AME Zion
MOCKSVILLE ó The congregation of St. John AME Zion Church, 145 Campbell Road, Mocksville, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday Oct. 4. Sunday school will start at 9:30 a.m. with the church service beginning at 11 a.m.
A covered dish luncheon at 1:30 p.m. will follow the morning service. The afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Harold Jordan, pastor of Providence AME Zion Church, along with his choir and congregation of Salisbury, NC.
Revival services will be held Oct. 5 through 7 at 7:30 p.m. nightly with the following speakers: Monday: the Rev. Thomas Lee of Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion, E. Spencer; Tuesday; the Rev. NC Baptist Singers

Calvary Baptist
Calvary Baptist Church, 2255 E. Ridge Rd., begins its Harvest Revival this Sunday, Oct. 4, and continues through Wednesday evening, Oct. 7.
The speaker for the week will be the Rev. Dr. Don Stephens, pastor of Bear Creek Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.
Stephens holds degrees from East Texas Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies and International Bible Institute and Seminary.
Stephens’ pastoral ministry includes serving churches in Texas, Illinois, and North Carolina and he has conducted over 300 revivals throughout his career.
Special nights of the coming Harvest Revival include: Children’s Night on Sunday with a pizza supper at 6 p.m.; Sunday School Night on Monday with a covered dish meal at 6 p.m.; Pack-a-Pew Night on Tuesday; and Youth Night on Wednesday with a pizza supper at 6 p.m..

Lyerly Evangelical
ROCKWEL ó Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, Rockwell, will host its annual Missions Conference on Oct. 4, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó Allen Delanti Hines Sr. will deliver his first official sermon this Sunday, 5 p.m., at Love Christian Center, 102 South Long St., East Spencer.
Hines is the treasurer of Love Christian Center and also serves as a special advisor to the pastor, Bishop W. Ronald Hash.
Hines attended Barber-Scotia College in Concord and later Gardner-Webb College where he graduated with a B.S. in Sociology. Hines joined the U.S. Army Reserves where he obtained the rank of E-4. He married Minister Tiffany Hines in 2005 and has seven children.
Since 1997, Hines has been employed by Freightliner. He is an active volunteer coach.

Corinth Church
NEEDMORE ó Corinth Church of Christ will have its Fall Gospel Meeting Oct. 4 through 7.
Eddy Craft from the Elizabethton Church of Christ, Elizabethton, Tenn. will bring a series of lessons concerning Bible examples of conversions in the New Testament. These lessons will be presented Sunday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to a fellowship meal at 12:30 p.m. before the 2 p.m. lesson. Monday through Wednesday nights’ lessons will be at 7 p.m.
Craft is a full-time instructor for the Tri-Cities School of Preaching and Christian Development.

Fall festival
LANDIS ó First United Methodist Church, 209 E. Mill St., Landis, will have its Fall Festival, Saturday, Oct. 17, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
There will be a craft bazaar, kids activities including bounce house, pumpkin patch and face painting. They will also be selling hot dogs, home made cakes, desserts and ice cream.
Friendship Baptist
Friendship Baptist Church will be in revival services Oct. 8 through 10. The Rev. Jimmy Closterman, pastor of Faith Decision Baptist Church, Berea, Ky., will be the visiting speaker. Services are at 7 p.m. nightly.
They will be celebrating their 24th annual homecoming Sunday, Oct., 11 at 11 a.m. Special music will be by Nathan Kirkman. Dinner on the grounds will follow the morning services.

Bethlehem walk
Walk Thru Bethlehem needs actors and holy families.
Planning for this December’s Walk Thru Bethlehem at Camp Wesley, Dec. 4-12, is underway. Anyone interested in construction, acting or serving in this multi-denominational holiday event is welcome.
Couples with an infant 3-15 months are also invited for a two-hour shift as the Holy Family.

Prince of Peace
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3070 N.C. Highway 152 ,will celebrate homecoming Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service with the Rev. Bruce C. Sheeks as guest speaker.
Sheeks is a graduate at Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C. He is pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell where he has served since 1981. Sheeks has been a N.C. District West Civitan Chaplain since 2006. He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Maurice Staley, interim pastor, will assist. . Special music will be offered by Alan Hutchens and Ruth Boger. A covered dish meal will be served following the worship service; all are invited.
Mighty Miracle

Maranatha Church
Maranatha Bible Church will have a memorial service for Catherine Eugenia Brazell on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Former students, friends, and family are invited.
“Miss B” taught Bible at Woodleaf Elementary and West Rowan High, sponsored by West Rowan Bible Teaching Association. At age 87, she was still teaching adult classes at the YMCA, Yadkin House and Crosswinds Apartments until she moved to Georgia in 2005 for health reasons to be near her family.
She died Sept. 23 in Cumming, Ga. Her funeral was held last Saturday in Columbia, S.C., where she was born and grew up.
‘Walk for Life’
The Pregnancy Support Center’s 14th annual Walk for Life will be held 9-11:30 a.m., Oct. 10, at the Rowan County Fairgrounds.
Walker registration, free breakfast, music, games, and activities are from 9ń10 a.m. The program and non-competitive, 2-mile walk will be held between 10 and 11 a.m.
Following the walk, games will resume and door prizes and awards will be announced.
Walkers may pick up registration forms at participating churches or the Pregnancy Support Center, 847 S. Main St., collect donations and bring them to the walk at 9 a.m.
The Pregnancy Support Center has been assisting local families for more than 20 years. It provides help to those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy who seek an alternative to abortion, including free pregnancy tests, appropriate referrals including adoption, provision of pregnancy and baby supplies, peer counseling and support, limited ultrasound services, and various other services.
All the services provided come from a network of churches and individuals in the community that provide both volunteer manpower and financial support.
