Although Tuesday dawned downright cold, Rowan residents enjoyed a sunny afternoon with the temperature climbing near 60.
That’s expected to change today. And anybody venturing out should not only wear a jacket, but will probably want to carry an umbrella.
Area temperatures are forecast to be in the low 50s, and rain expected to drench the area could accumulate to 21/2 inches through the evening hours.
“There will be heavy rains, flooding and thunderstorms moving into the Salisbury” Wednesday night, said Scott Krentz, a meteorologist with the Weather Service in Greer, S.C. In addition to the rain, Rowan could see winds gusting up to 30 mph.
The Weather Service warns Rowan residents to steer clear of areas that could flood, including creeks and streams. And drivers should not try to drive through water, the service said. People should stay indoors during periods of strong winds.
Following the harsh weather conditions today, Thursday’s weather should be dry with a high temperature of about 61.
That’s a temporary reprieve, however. Friday will be colder, with a high in the low 50s and a low possibly dipping into the high 20s.
Saturday’s weather could be even worse, with a predicted high of only 41 and an expected low in the mid-20s. More rain could move in Saturday and the lower temperatures mean there’s a slight chance of snow mixed with the rain.
One to 2 inches of precipitation is expected to fall over the weekend.
The storm system is expected to move out of the area by Monday, with temperatures warming to the lower 50s.
