As the Rowan County Legion Baseball team plays in Fargo, N.D., the buzz is building in Salisbury.
Even non-baseball fans find themselves picking up a newspaper to see if the “cinderella team” is still making Rowan County history.
Denon Hogue, a barber at Ted’s Barbershop, explained he hasn’t paid any attention until now.
“Just lately,” Hogue responded, when asked if he follows Rowan Legion baseball. “I just like the story. A small town making it to the limelight.”
Others had similar views, but the one common element: everybody’s proud of the Rowan County boys.
“I know about it, but I don’t really follow it,” Jimmy Kinely said as he enjoyed an ice cream cone with his grandson, Austin. “I think the boys are doing good. We’re proud of them. It takes a lot of hard work to get that far.”
Angela Sifford, an avid Legion fan, explained how proud the dedicated fans are also. “My nephew played ball for them for a long time, and my father was a pitcher,” Sifford said. “I think it’s fantastic, they practice hard, they work hard. Baseball is all-American.”
