As projected, 20th day enrollments in the Rowan-Salisbury School System were down this year.
In the Kannapolis City Schools, the 20th day enrollment was also slightly down from last year even though school officials had projected an increase.
Rowan-Salisbury reported a 20th day enrollment of 20,543, down 395 from last year’s 20th day and 236 from the 20,779 projected by the system. Kannapolis reported a 20th day enrollment of 5,127, down 18 from the 20th day last year and 73 from the 5,200 projected by the system.
Rita Foil, public information officer for the Rowan-Salisbury School System, and Ellen Boyd, Community Relations Director for the Kannapolis City Schools, both attributed at least part of the decreased enrollment to the deadline for students entering kindergarten being moved up from Oct. 15 to Aug. 31.
This means that students turning 5 from Sept. 1 through Oct. 15 will have to wait another year to enter kindergarten.
