– Bandleader Kay Kyser, born in Rocky Mount
– Country singer Charlie Daniels, born in Wilmington
– Billy Scott of Billy Scott and the Georgia Prophets, based in Charlotte
– Beach band Chairmen of the Board, based in Charlotte
– Opera singer Victoria Livengood of Thomasville
– Jazz pianist and composer Loonis McGlohon, born in Ayden
– Music promoter Bill Griffin of Greensboro
– Country music singer Ronnie Milsap, born in Robbinsville
