Education: West Rowan grad awarded scholarship

The National Swimming Pool Foundation has awarded the 2009 Board of Directors’ Scholarship to Amy Lea Hipp of Salisbury.
This $2,000 scholarship is awarded to an active Certified Pool/Spa Operator. A 2006 honor graduate of West Rowan High School, Hipp is a senior at Appalachian State University double majoring in public history and recreation management with a concentration in outdoor experiential education.
She is employed as the aquatics programmer and medical programmer at ASU, and is an EMT with the Watauga County Rescue Squad. She is the daughter of Greg and Jackie Hipp.
NSPF scholarships will be announced at the awards ceremony at the World Aquatic Health Conference to be held in Atlanta on Oct. 29.
Junior Civitan leader
Danielle Wall, a senior at East Rowan High School, has been chosen to serve as the 2009-10 Junior Civitan International vice president.
Wall was elected by her peers during the annual Junior Civitan International Convention held this year in Atlanta.
Wall previously served Junior Civitan as the governor for the North Carolina District West. In addition, Wall won the 2008 Miss Junior Civitan Pageant.
She was Diversity Club president of her high school and a member of the Student Council and Spanish Club. Wall was an intern at Granite Quarry Town Hall and Elizabeth Dole headquarters.
Junior Civitan is a community service organization for young people, with approximately 14,000 members in more than 400 clubs throughout Africa, Europe and North America. Its mission is to provide young people with opportunities for personal and career development while improving their schools and communities through service.
