Education: Trexler presents at leadership conference

Kristina Trexler of South Rowan High School attended the North Carolina Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference in Raleigh on April 16-18.
She placed in the top eight in Business Presentation. Her topic for the presentation was “How to Stay Safe on the Internet.” She placed first in the NCACTE Broyhill Leadership Conference Scholarship. She is the daughter of Stacey and Melaine Trexler of Salisbury.

Catawba Junior Marshals
Eleven students from Catawba College’s School of Evening and Graduate Studies were commissioned as Junior Marshals in an April 18 ceremony held in Tom Smith Auditorium.
Dean of the School of Evening and Graduate Studies, Dr. Edith Bolick, and College Marshal Professor David Pulliam, officiated at the ceremony.
These Junior Marshals were chosen from the junior class based on academic rank and are among the most honored students on campus. They embody the best of Catawba College both in academic achievement and service to the college community. They will represent the college in formal graduation week ceremonies, adding order and dignity to the proceedings.

Alpha Sigma Lambda
Thirteen students in Catawba College’s School of Evening and Graduate Studies Program were inducted into the college’s chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society during a ceremony held April 15 in Tom Smith Auditorium on campus. Officers for the honor society were also installed during the ceremony.
Catawba’s Beta Sigma Chi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the counterpart of Alpha Chi National Honor Society, is for adults enrolled in the college’s School of Evening and Graduate Studies. Chartered at Catawba in 2001, this organization is non-profit and devoted to the advancement of scholarship and to the recognition of nontraditional students continuing their higher education. The society was established in 1945 at University College at Northwestern University. Catawba members of this society must have earned a minimum of 24 graded semester hours in an undergraduate degree program with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
